Vinyl Printing from Print for Display
About the sticker printing service
Print for Display offer vinyl printing to create custom stickers. Your artwork or images can be printed onto waterproof self adhesive vinyl and either left as square stickers or cut to any shape required. Custom stickers can be made at any size from 10mm to 700mm wide by any length. Sticker printing can be enhanced and given a longer life by laminating. A thin transparent gloss laminate is applied to the sticker prior to contour cutting and will make the printed stickers more resistant to abrasion. This is particularly important for vinyl printing used for floor stickers. Custom stickers that are printed without a laminate are resistant enough to abrasion for general use. It is only when the printed stickers will be subject to scuffing that lamination is required.
Stickers are printed on a roll of vinyl. When multiple custom stickers are purchased they will be supplied cut to shape and stuck on a roll of backing paper. Stickers are not individually cut out.
Sticker printing: The technology used
Eco solvent printers are used for all vinyl printing. Unlike standard ink jet printers the inks used for sticker printing is solvent based and slightly dissolve the surface of the vinyl. This creates abrasion resistant stickers straight off the printer with lamination only required when the sticker printing is exposed to wear. The print resolution of solvent printers is often less than that of dye and pigment based printers, like the ones used for photo printing. At Print for Display our vinyl printing is done at the highest resolution available for solvent printers, 1440dpi. This creates photo realistic sticker printing with custom stickers printed with quality comparable to many photo printers.
Image guidelines and advice for vinyl printing
Any image is suitable for sticker printing. These could range from stickers printed form photographs to vector graphic produced company logos. If a photograph is require to be printed as custom stickers and cut out to a desired shape a cutter guide will be required. This can be in the form of any vector file, for example .dxf, .dwg, .eps, .ai or .pdf. The printers use this cutter guide to CNC cut the sticker out. Print for Display offer a free artwork service to create cutter guides so if an image for sticker printing is emailed there is no need to worry about trying to create a cutter guide.
Images that are created using vector graphic programmes, for example Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw will also be suitable for sticker printing. The edge of the shape will be in a vector format and so can be used as a cutter guide. Individual letters are not as suitable for vinyl printing. It is better to cut each word as a single sticker.
The printers used by Print for Display for vinyl printing use four inks and require images to be supplied as CMYK colour space. It is not required that the customer supplies images as CMYK as images will be converted prior to vinyl printing.
